I’ll tell you a little about me, and a little about this website, and why I started a website, and what I am trying to do here.

First, let me say that I grew up as an Air Force brat.  I mention that because I read somewhere that a high proportion of military kids tend to go into artistic fields – web design, writing, art, architecture, etcetera.  I was headed in the same direction. If you would have met me in elementary school, or in high school, you would have thought to yourself “hey, that kid will probably go into web design, writing, art, architecture, etcetera.” Actually, you wouldn’t have thought about the web design part because the internet hadn’t been invented yet, but the underlying concept still holds.

But something happened. When it came time to go to college and start thinking about my major and, perhaps, how I was going to support myself when I grew up, I got it into my head that I should get a “real” job. Whereas my parents were telling me to go to art school, or look for a good film school, or go to a normal college but major in something like creative writing or architecture or free form jazz exploration… or whatever… I was like “well… I’m not so much into that. Maybe I should be an accountant.  You know, be a real person.” As you are probably thinking to yourself as you read this, I should have listened to my mother.

So, here I am, in my mid 30’s, and I am a lawyer. In fact, I’m a great lawyer, and an even better mediator. And I have an awesome job as an advisor/recruiter for the St. Thomas University School of Law, which is one of the coolest law schools in the country. The job is great, the marriage is great. It’s all great.  I love it. Life is a box of chocolates, and I’m the taste buds.

Over time, however, that inner creative person has begun to reemerge. The kid who used to make paintings of powerful damsels fighting strange creatures and who used to write fiction that gave his teachers headaches  has made a come-back, and now he’s a full-grown man, baby! (yeah!).  A full-grown man who writes and records ear slurping original music, who writes mesmerizing fiction, and creates paintings that will sprain your eyeballs.  A FULL GROWN MAN!

Anyway, the point is, now that I have established a good career and proven I can excel in a “real” nine-to-five job setting, the inner creative person that I repressed all these years feels comfortable asserting himself once more.  This time, he’s here to stay, baby! (yeah!)

On the other hand, I love my day job.  So I’m not going on some self-discovery tour where my wife and I abandon our materialistic lifestyle and wonder around the country begging for change and playing bongos in subway stations. As tempting as that sounds, all I really want is just an outlet for my creative energy.

So, what do I do? Here’s what I do: I build a website. In my spare time I make paintings, write fiction, write music, and blog like a madman, and then I put it on this website and liquify your innards.

Also, if you’d like to check out this wikipedia article about Captain Marvel, feel free to do so. It has nothing to do with this website, but it’s an interesting read. When you think about it, he could probably beat Superman in a fight. And Mighty Mouse, too.
