Acrylic on Water Color Paper

One day I’ll post really cool paintings of dragons and wizards and space ships and aliens, and, um… and stuff. For now, I have decided to post a few images from my sketch pads. The above still-life of grapes was one of my first attempts to use acrylic paint, and at the time I just did it as an exercise to get used to acrylic as a medium.  Lately it’s really been growing on me. I’m not sure why, because it is very primitive as far as paintings go. Perhaps thats the reason.

Anyway, back to the artwork itself.  The portraits are from my pen/pencil sketchpad. The building below and the grapes above are from my acrylic sketch pad (I got all kinds of sketch pads. I also maintain a couple other sketch pads, including a day planner/sketch pad. It seems I read too many books about Leonardo da Vinci when I was a kid). Click on one of the images below to leave a comment about it, and click it again to see a larger image.

I’ll soon be starting the first full sized painting that I have attempted in years. Until now the only artwork I have been doing is pencil, ink, or acrylic sketches.  Partially, this is because I needed to build up my skills (if this statement seems mysterious, see the about page). Also, sketches don’t require a full studio. I still don’t have a full studio, but I might have figured a way to do full sized painting anyway.  Digital paintings will be forthcoming too.

For really cool art, and and example of images that take me to my happy place, check out Larry Elmore’s website. Larry Elmore is an artisitic genius, along with Frank Frazetta and Ed Beard Jr.,  and a whole bunch of great artists, but Larry’s website also is really cool because his art gallery launches little mini images (flash pages? I don’t  know) when you click on the image. I hope to do that for this website at some point. ***4/10 Update – I found a cool plugin, I just have to figure out how to upload and manipulate it. Rember, all my web management skills are self taught.***

5-5-09 update – I am thinking now that I should just load everything onto Flickr, or perhaps deviant art.
